How to Install Hammer Drive Pin Concrete Masonry Anchors | Fasteners 101

Hammer drive pin. This is mostly used, or rather I've seen these mostly used, for fastening plywood to a concrete floor. So if you have a basement and you want to put wood flooring down or you want to put a subfloor down, you can use this anchor for that purpose. You would drill a hole to the size of this anchor, the diameter, right through wood to the concrete. Drop this in until it's flush to the the plywood. Then hammer down the nail. That nail becomes flush with the top and you're done. It's anchored to the concrete. It's a very quick way to fasten plywood to many different surfaces, such as walls, among other things. I'm gonna show you how to install this hammer drive anchor now. Once you put these in, there's no taking them out. Basically how these work: these hammer drive anchors have a slit down the center here. Once this pin drives down it spreads that lower portion of the anchor. I'm going to show you by installing this piece of wood into this block. What happens is you put it through the material… …then you're gonna drive this pin down.

So when I drive this pin down it's going to spread and it's gonna lock that piece of wood in place. I'm going to demonstrate that now for you. You need a hammer for this application. And that's it. You can see I drove that head down below the surface of the block. So if you put wood flooring on top of this plywood, instead of putting it on concrete, you now have a clean surface. Flat. So you can install your wood flooring or carpet so that head does not stick up above the wood..
