Time to finish the legs First part is more of the same… some more joints but I feel I'm getting a little bit better already If you're cutting a motise it's a good idea to drill holes with a drill or a brace to remove as much material as possible before chiseling This is especially true if you're working with hardwood In this case, as you can see, the wood was relatively easy to chisel out. But I should have drilled the holes anyway. As it is the case for all of my tools right now they are super cheap tools I had at home for some reason like this red chisel. The ones with wooden handles are super inexpensive ones I bought from Lidl European viewers are probably familiar with Lidl tools. While I think it's well worth investing in good quality tools I think that when you're starting having some very cheap tools is very valuable because you can experiment whithout worrying about abusing them.
Also if you want to know more about these chisels Rex Krueger made a video about cheap chisels and I suspect these are exactly the same ones under a different name. It goes without saying that having tools on a very shaky table is not good practice at all, but be honest… it's quite funny to watch when sped up, isn't it? As you can see I'm using rasp and sandpaper a lot chisel would be better suited for the job but I don't trust my skill enough to just cut through the excess wood the side effect is that cutting this joints is taking forever But given the very bad wood and my inexperience I'm quite happy of the results I would like to have one or two vertical clamps but this are the only one I have that are long enough In fact to be totally honest the depth of the workbench is based on this two clamps I'm very bad at planning as you will find out To make up for the missing long clamps I'm squeezing the joint with two short ones Ok they rattle a bit.
But this is not going to be a problem, I swear. Also I bought a rip saw! And a dovetail saw! I really shouldn't buy this crappy tools But it's very difficult to find hand tools these days I really need to go search for some vintage tools.
