"The chuck adjust open and close to security
hold a drill bit, allowing you to use a variety of different sizes. There are three jaws on the chuck that clamp
against the drill bit. After years of hard use these jaws will wear,
and your drill bit might begin to slip in the chuck. Sometimes a jaw inside the chuck can be broken
off. Replacing the chuck is repair that you can
do yourself, and I'm going to show you how. Hi, I'm Mike Sodja. Do-it-yourself repeairs like these are easier
than you might think. From lawn machines to cordless drills, kitchen
mixers, outdoor grills, our how-to videos walk you through each repair from start to
finish.
So, doing it yourself means never having to
do it alone. Let's get started. I'll begin by removing the chuck from the
drill. First I'll remove the chuck screw, it's reverse-thread. With the retaining screw removed, now I can
remove the chuck. First, I'll set the transmission to the low
setting, then I'll take a large Allen wrench and chuck it into the chuck. Now I'm going to quickly strike the Allen
wrench with a mallet. The sudden force will break the chuck free. Now I can install the new chuck. I'll thread it onto the spindle.
I'll use the Allen wrench again to hand tighten
the chuck. I'll secure the chuck with the retaining screw. I'll place it inside the chuck and thread
it into place, and again, remember that it is a reverse-thread. That's how easy it is to replace the drill
chuck on your cordless drill. Be sure to check back often for new videos
